Another quiet meet at Bracknell

Its becoming a bit of a tradition/worry that the once popular Bracknell meets at South Hill Park have become ever quieter in recent months. So come the first sunday afternoon in July I we weren't sure whether to bother with the short drive over, not wanting to be faced with the inevitable empty car park again.

Having just moved we needed a trip out to escape the ongoing task of box opening, a chat with fellow movers Gren and Jan revealed that they also felt like making the trip up from their new pad in Andover so it was a date. Sadly Leonard didn't want to play ball and spat his dummy as well as a litre of unleaded out through some a split in a fuel line, so we made it 500yds down the road before stopping to investigate the smell.

Thanks to the speedy work of our breakdown company the sickly flat-four was back on the drive within the hour and we swapped over to Passat power for the trip.

On arrival we spied a carpark again devoid of anything Volkswagen shaped apart from the mighty Gipsy, so we set up home next to it and borrowed a couple of chairs for the afternoon. Luckily the afternoon wasn't wasted as Alan and Helen rolled in shortly after from Alton and with Jeffs trusty Split Panel van making a brief appearance, we chatted till it was time for tea.

Much laughter was had and once again we were glad we'd made the effort to get out and meet up.

Its just a pity that so few members feel the same. I appreciate that its a nice summers afternoon and people have other things to do, but I feel that the final nails are being driven into the coffin that is "the Bracknell meet" Perhaps its just not needed anymore, who knows?

Steve.
