Easter Dubs

After a rather embarrassing twelve monthgap, we were back at South Hill Park for the LTV monthly meet. With the offer of chocolate and a chance to go out in the Camper, Lily leapt at the chance to head over to Bracknell for a bit. Rolling into the carpark there were a couple of club members already in place.

As more people arrived the familiar sight of Herbie and Jack, the Beetle and Buggy of David and Louise. A winter sat idle meant a push reverse was needed!

More campers and Beetles arrived as we headed for the cafe before Lily was enticed back for a gift from the Easter Bunny.

Sadly a prior engagement meant we had to head home to get a roast started, but it was nice to be back with our VW friends once more.

Heatwave at DATP

After our sunny holiday it was time to end the week off with a trip to Bracknell for LTVs Dubs at the Park. With scorching temperatures predicted and knowing what the traffic can be like we set off early and rolled up the driveway to Easthampstead Park before the monster queues began.

We parked up under the trees by the club display and relaxed for a bit as the Dubs came in, we were soon joined by our poptopped twin van with Malcs and family.

Lily and I headed out for a wander, past the Kubel of Cordwallis and onto the side field. With a brief stop to chat to Alan and his fur family we headed for the side field. As we came to the icecream van it was decided that it was snack time so with a chocolaty mess in hand we headed back for a clean up!

Back at the Camper we feasted on bacon rolls and beer while nattering to a few fellow dubbers before attempting to look round again.

At the bottom of the field we found Sue and the Horse Rangers where Lilys half eaten apple was munched by Star before we carried on. The promise of a bouncy castle session saw us clear the bottom field in record time! The sun was still beating down and my little companion was flagging a bit despite the carrying and drinks.

Back at the Camper once more for drinks and a sit down, we borrowed Grens awning and chairs. A final walk round was needed so with Pab in tow we set out round a few vans before Lily decided it was home time.

Then with weary legs we set off home. Despite a few setbacks during the build up to the show, the orange crew pulled off another really good event with loads of great cars and traders. We never saw the bands or the MTB display, but the crowds around both showed a big hit.

Quick trip to Bracknell

We had a small window of free time today. Kim was off helping set up Lily's pre-school Easter fete, so me and the small one headed up the A329 to Bracknell to see the Dubbers for an hour. The car park was already filling up as we arrived and headed to the cafe.

After a cuppa and walk around, we were back by the Dubs, Lily running up and down the hill, me chatting.

With the fete starting we headed off to spend our pennies on the stalls and leave the Dubbers to the carpark.

Fresh February Bracknell Meet

An unexpectedly sunny day in a week of downpours meant a trip out in the Camper. Bracknell beckoned and a cold carpark of Campers and Beetles.

Luckily, several other people had the same idea and our corner of the carpark was full of a variety of Dubs.

New out was this tidy Crewcab, an ex Swedish railway work van it had lead a hard life and recently been restored.

 photo bracknell4.jpg

This Beetle clearly wasn't carry enough load in the suitcase to overcome the heavy weights under the bonnet!

After a natter the sun was heading down and the temperature along with it, so I hightailed it home.

Christmas Bracknell

Its been a while! 18 months actually! LTV has been through some hard times recently, we moved on from it in the middle of last year as things started to get messy. We kept in contact with a few people and hoped that one day it would all calm down a bit. Things still aren't perfect, but with a few changes the road to recovery for a 40 odd year old VW club could be on the horizon. At the recent AGM we were recognised for the work we did over almost a decade as members and then team members and gifted a life membership to the club. As such, we decided to give the festive meet a go. After a trip to Woodley for the Winter Extravaganza we pointed a dirty Passat to Bracknell and armed with naff jumpers caught up with old friends over a mincepie and sausage roll.

Santa made an appearance for the little ones and handed out presents. Lily wasn't too sure, but came away happy. The turnout wasn't massive, but those that came enjoyed themselves.

We ended our afternoon with a trip down the slide before a drive home to warmth.

The Bracknell toddler and baby meet and some VWs!

The weather building up to this weekend has been amazing. Blue skies and mid 20°c all week. Then on Saturday it went grey and it looked like the Bracknell meet may be a wash out. Luckily the weathermen were all proved wrong and it was a fantastic day. Bombing along the A329M on route I caught and passed a familiar Split. Malcs and family were coming too and with Kim and Lily in the Beetle that meant at least three air-cooled Dubs.

After parking up we headed inside for a drink and some food and a cuddle with little Charlie.

Before heading back out. The line of air-cooleds was quite long and a crowd had gathered to natter.

The kids ran around wearing themselves out and the parents too!

One by one people drifted off home as we carried on playing.

Eventually it was time to head off. There may not have been a huge number but there were a few new members and great company. It was nice to get the Beetle and the Camper out to play for once, I can't remember the last time that happened.
