Christmas Bracknell

Its been a while! 18 months actually! LTV has been through some hard times recently, we moved on from it in the middle of last year as things started to get messy. We kept in contact with a few people and hoped that one day it would all calm down a bit. Things still aren't perfect, but with a few changes the road to recovery for a 40 odd year old VW club could be on the horizon. At the recent AGM we were recognised for the work we did over almost a decade as members and then team members and gifted a life membership to the club. As such, we decided to give the festive meet a go. After a trip to Woodley for the Winter Extravaganza we pointed a dirty Passat to Bracknell and armed with naff jumpers caught up with old friends over a mincepie and sausage roll.

Santa made an appearance for the little ones and handed out presents. Lily wasn't too sure, but came away happy. The turnout wasn't massive, but those that came enjoyed themselves.

We ended our afternoon with a trip down the slide before a drive home to warmth.

Festive Toy Run

Another year, another toy run. Instead of driving up to the start for this one. We decided to walk round the corner and catch it as it came past the end of the road. 1700 bikers ina  convoy that took the best part of an hour to pass us.

A team of reindeer riders flanked a sleigh on a trailer. The crowd cheered them on.

It was nice to have some sunshine for once, the good weather bringing the crowds out to line the road on both sides.

As the convoy finished, a lone Santa waved them away and the crowds headed home. Its always a nice end to the year to watch this heart warming sight.

Krispmasy Kreme meet

That’s it, the last outing of the year for us all. We are almost back to where we started, eating doughnuts in New Malden! A chilly December morning wasn’t likely to bring out many American cars to the Krispy Kreme diner off the A3, but there was enough to keep us busy…..drinking coffee and eating sweet snacks.

After a chat I ventured outside into the freezing carpark to check out who’d made it there, it was a Mustang-athon with half a dozen of them parked up.

Back inside David and Matt had arrived and another dozen was ordered as Lily got to grips with this walking lark.

With the time getting on and being stuffed we headed outside as the stragglers left, the heavy right foot exits of the last few visits gone. With a few hundred horsepower and some very slick roads (Our lowly Passat could have performed a rolling burnout!)

Its been another bumper year for us, the old air-cooleds have had less trips than I would like, but hopefully 2012 will see us all out far more.

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas

As the white stuff is fluttering down outside its time to abandon the usual forms of transport…..

….and take a leaf out of the fat man in reds book.

A lot of the car manufacturers are getting in on the act of Santa Sleigh design too, Aston Martin, Bentley and Rolls Royce are adding a bit of luxury to the toy hauler.

Or you could just supercharge the reindeer hotrod style and tow an old stagecoach.

There are a few more designs over on the Car magazine website, Merry Christmas and thanks for reading.

Christmas at the Ace Cafe

The December meet at the Ace Café on the North Circular in London is the last chance to meet up with fellow Dubbers before Christmas. Despite the freezing weather there was a good turn out of T4/5s and air-cooleds.

First up was a little grub to warm us up….

….and pudding to fill us up

Next up it was out into the cold to sample the cars on show.

The festive Bracknell meet

December, its cold and sunny and the perfect weather for the LTV festive meet at South Hill Park. Following on from our trip to the toy run in the morning and after saving a fellow camper owner who’d run out of go-go juice we finally made it to Bracknell. Mince pies, tinsel and Santa filled the carpark as the members met for the last time in 2009.
