Our first trip of the year to Santa Pod (and probably our last unless they can build a maternity ward before VW Action in September!) and the sun is shining brightly. After a roadwork and traffic ridden drive up the motorways we finally rolled into The Pod to the welcome sight of “Camp LTV” with Kim weighed down with the speedybump the offers of help erecting the awning were very welcome.
With the pitch all set and a drink in hand we made for the strip for some late racing action, culminating with the last run of the day for Fireforce, the 260+mph jet car
Back on camp the rest of LTV arrived as the other show goers used rather unusual methods to get around.
Fed and watered we headed for the funfair for the evening, with a bad back (honestly) we watched the others hoon around in the dark.
With the temperature dropping we snuggled up in the Camper for the night catching up on some well earned sleep ready for a full day in the morning, starting with a fry up.
Ash and Pete were both in the dragging mood and so we wandered over to the banking to watch them line up for some runs, Ash in his newly purchased Beetle, Pete in our old Golf GTI, before they could run a Split van emptied its load of tat over the track!
And then it was time for the off. Ash improved on his last runs and Pete thrashed my expectations for the Golf.
Then it was time to make for the traders and the paddock to check out the rides taking to the ¼ mile.
Down by the pits a small line had been formed, some stunners were on display including this V8 Camper resting on its sills and the Bush Taxi with the biggest bumper I’ve seen.
As is the tradition at shows now I needed a “weekend hat” this fine specimen was picked up from a trader and worn all evening long by me a gaggle of friends.
A well stack rack!
Taking it easy
After a bite to eat and a chance to rest weary legs we were off once more, back to the traders and a bit more track action, first stop was club camping to catchup with Jenny and the Pimms Podlet.
Stu BBQ’d a monster mound of meat which was consumed and we caught the last of the racing before it got too dark.
Then it was time for some fancy dress and hat swapping fun in the Fuellers Bar, drinking, doughnuts and chat before tucking up in the warmth of the Camper again.
Sunday dawned damp and grey, a monster bacon, egg, mushroom & black pudding roll perked us up for the show’n’shine.
With everything packed away we watched a last hour of racing, including the amazing BlackCurrent electric Beetle, before saying our goodbyes.
With the final outing for the weekend hat we rolled out the gates, a corker of a weekend with a great group of mates, my thanks go to everyone that help Kim and I out with awning erecting, chair loans and hugs, we really appreciate it guys. Thanks for reading. The rest of the photos can be found
