Wheely good fun in the rain

Good Friday, classic cars and rain, three things that seem to go together if the last few years are anything to go by! Wheels Day has been going for over 30 years now and has been held at Rushmoor Arena for quite a while. Having been going for five years we’ve got a system going now, meet up early nearby with some friends, cruise into the field and get a spot together a couple of rows from the front, cook up a cuppa and some bacon rolls and watch the masses roll in down the hill and fill the field up.

South Hill Park at 7:30am, led to McDonalds carpark on the outskirts of Farnborough by 8am and a line of Dubs arriving at the show by half past. Bacon rolls were go!

As the bacon sizzled I caught up with a few Retro Rides mates that were wandering around. The papping began.

Fed and watered we began the epic task of getting round the show field, in previous years over 2000 cars, bikes & trucks have vied for our attention, with the sun beaming down it was looking promising.

Our little group walked round taking it all in.

Alan had a closer look at some of the cars.

Its not all old cars, if it’s a bit different it gets a space on the field.

Nosing out and about.

There was plenty of pin striping about.

Back at the Camper for a cuppa, we listened to the superb band.

Before heading out for another nose around, a slight drizzle in the air that soon turned into a downpour.

With the rain getting harder the hordes ran back to their cars and headed home, some hid waiting for the damp to pass.

Finally we admitted defeat and sought shelter in the Camper and had a bite to eat, hoping the storm would pass.

As more vehicles got stuck in the mud it got wetter than an otters pocket.

The rain eased and finally stopped, some people just had to get out and do another rain dance though.

Within a few minutes it was back once more and we packed up and headed for home, deft clutch work saw us out without so much as a spin of the wheels and no need for assistance.

As we drove home cold and wet the sun came out for the rest of the day, bloody typical! The rest of the damp photos are here. Thanks for reading

Steve.
