For the first time in years we decided to have a proper holiday. For her and a friends combined 30th birthdays, Kim hired an old caravan on the Isle of Wight and she'd wanted to go back again ever since. So on Saturday lunchtime with the Camper all packed ready we set off for Portsmouth and the ferry. In the queue nice and early we were first on and right at the front. We were delayed leaving for a few minutes as one of the Tallships was coming to port.
After a choppy crossing we made it to Fishbourne and headed for Vintage Vacations just South of Ryde. The site has moved since Kim was there and now homes 15 caravans from 1940s Spartans through 60s Airstreams and a couple of British vans as well. Each set in its own pitch with a little decking outside and facilities in a nearby block. Due to a hen party we had our first night in the snug 1946 Spartan Manor.
We settled in for a long bedtime as an excited Lily refused to go to bed (a common theme throughout the week!) but eventually with Kim on a bed on the floor with her and me in the back bed we dozed off.
